Political Science

The doctoral study program (DSP) Political Science implemented at the Department of Political and European Studies (hereafter DPES) of the Palacký University Olomouc, Faculty of Arts (UP FA) is linked to four existing accredited master degree programs: 1) Governance and Democracy, 2) European Union, 3) Political Analysis and Strategy, and 4) War and Peace Studies. In accordance with Section 47 (1 and 3) of the Act no. 111/1998 Coll. On Tertiary Education, this doctoral study program is focused on scientific and independent creative activities related to research in political science, and is conducted according to individual study plans under the supervision of tutors from DPES or external tutors. The aim of the doctoral study program Political Science is to raise professionals qualified in science and research capable of independent scientific work in the area of research in political science and independent teaching of political science at the tertiary education level.

DSP Political Science raises graduates fulfilling international standards required from graduates of doctoral study. A graduate of DSP Political Science is knowledgeable in present-day theoretical and methodological approaches in political science, especially in his/her sub-field of specialization. The graduate is aware of current scientific literature and scientific studies worldwide and is able to work with these sources expertly when investigating research questions. Professional competence also involves the ability to participate in scientific discussion on specific theoretical and methodological problems related to the particular field, the ability to design and lead research projects, and the ability to present the results of research work.
