Geological Sciences

The Study program is focused on scientific education and individual professional activity in geology and applied geophysics, targeting environmental and interdisciplinary sub-disciplines. The Program is accredited in cooperation with the Geophysical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS). The experience of the guaranteeing Department and CAS, international cooperation, professional equipment, publication and project activities and topics of Master diploma works indicate the specialization of Doctor study program. The most stressed fields of study are hydrogeology, geochemistry, applied geophysics and petrophysics, sedimentology, stratigraphy, and their environmental application - e.g. the fate of pollutants in sedimentary archives, historical development of contamination, analysis of stratigraphic record, and pollution of sub-surface water.

The graduate masters all theoretical and methodical aspects of geosciences related to his/her dissertation, e.g. geochemistry, sedimentology, geophysics, hydrogeology or applied petrology, and understands geosciences as a whole, in mutual context. He/she has general knowledge of scientific trends in his/her field of study, manipulates the equipment related to his Dissertation and geological and statistical software, and works with electronic databases and information sources. The graduate masters the principles and methods of scientific work, has experience with financing science through projects, and knows to present his/her results in written, graphically, or verbally in English. The graduate has acquired experience from his stays abroad, through cooperation with home-country geological institutions (Czech Geological Service, Academy of Sciences ČR, universities), and educating students of Bachelor study program.
